About

Mahati Trust /Shri Deya Trust both these trusts were started some 15 years ago by V.G.Raghavan and his wife Padma Raghavan. They belong to a group of Devi worshippers and their Gurunatha felt that Devi Gayatri was and is the only uniting force of the Hindu community. This is very true inasmuch as Gayatri mantra is chanted throughout India without exception by one and all. He was of the opinion that if each and every village had a Gayatri temple wherein chanting of the mantra in the evenings at least is done regularly; there will be unity among the people of the villages, harmony and good vibration in and around the area.
To bring their vision to life, they acquired land bordering Chennai in Poovalai village near Arambakkam (20 kms from Gummidipoondi) and started SRI GAYATRI temple construction. The temple was consecrated in 2011 with pujas and havans. Simultaneously, 2500 mango saplings and various other trees were planted to create a calm and peaceful ambience. The farm is maintained organically (certified by Govt. of Tamil Nadu). They had a small residence built in the farm area and used it to enjoy the fresh air and nature’s beauty. It occurred to them that being so close to Chennai, other elders who have enjoyed village atmosphere could also relish this opportunity to reestablish their village roots. Thus, Sri Gayatri Senior Citizen Homes was born. It took about two years to complete the work and to get it ready for occupation. Entire funds required for capital of Trust has been met out of Family resources.
